CAD and 3D design

One design workflow: parametric CAD, physical prototypes, Blender visualisation and animation. Ideas made tangible, then tested against real constraints.

Assembly jig: prototype to CNC

SolidWorks jigs developed from printed prototype to release for CNC manufacture.

Modelled after learning SolidWorks by reverse-engineering a physical component with vernier calipers. The 3D-printed prototype was checked against the real production equipment in the cleanroom, refined, then released to the machine shop.

One-month placement in the Micro Electronics department at the UK’s largest outsourced semiconductor assembly and test facility.

  • Designed assembly jigs in SolidWorks and developed a 3D-printed prototype, validated against production equipment in the cleanroom before refinement and release for CNC manufacture.
  • Trained in SolidWorks by reverse-engineering a physical component using vernier calipers to produce an accurate 3D model.
  • Followed chip-on-board packaging end to end: wafer dicing against customer known-good-die data, die attach to in-house PCBs, wire bonding and glob-top encapsulation.
  • Took part in wire-bonding operations and trained on the wire-bonding machine.
  • Worked to cleanroom discipline: full gowning, ESD control and airborne particle monitoring to maintain ISO 14644-1 classification.
  • Applied Python from GCSE Computer Science to test and debug an existing Tower of Hanoi implementation, working through move validation and state-handling logic.
